NOAA Storm Tracker: Hurricane Maria Moves Rapidly Toward Newfoundland

As of 11:00 p.m. EDT on September 15, 2011, NOAA's Hurricane Center predicts that Hurricane Maria will rapidly approach Newfoundland, then make its way toward Greenland on Saturday.

Currently, Maria is located 775 miles southwest of Cape Race, Newfoundland, traveling northeast at 43 mph with sustained winds of 80 mph.
A continued northeastward motion is expected through Friday.

On the forecast track, the center of Maria will quickly pass over the Avalon peninsula Friday.
A hurricane watch and tropical storm warning is in effect for southern Newfoundland.

The constant rough surf generated by a string of Atlantic storms could ultimately mean heavy beach erosion for
Brevard County as well as the rest of the U.S. east coast.
