Cocoa Beach Surf and Fishing Report For Friday December 9, 2011

Always check the Front Page of Brevard Times.com each morning for the latest Surf and Fishing Report, or follow us on Facebook or Twitter to receive automatic updates.

As of 5:00 a.m. on Friday December 9, 2011,  jelly fish were not present throughout Cocoa Beach from Coconuts on the Beach northward to Jetty Park in Cape Canaveral, and have not been present for the last three months despite prevailing winds from the east and northeast.

Blackened Sargasso seaweed is still present on shore, but has diminished substantially in the water.  Winds will be from the northeast and east all day today, which may push seaweed toward near-shore waters.

Waves are 1 to 3 feet and choppy - not a surfing day today due to northeasterly on-shore winds.  There is a near-shore ocean current heading southward.

A small craft advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (see Hazardous Weather Outlook below).

Surf fishing has been better this week, given the lack of seaweed, small waves, and drop in temperature.
Today should be a good day for surf fishing.  Black Drum, Blue Fish, Red Drum, Whiting and Pompano are hitting up and down the Brevard County coastline from Sebastian Inlet to Jetty Park.
Pre-dawn fishing trips will be treated with the  International Space Station rising in the east and the 2011 Geminid Meteor Shower setting in the west.

20 Mile Cape Canaveral Buoy: 5.2 Ft. swell every 7 seconds.

Tides:

06:34 AM High
