COCOA BEACH, Fla.
-- As of 6:00 a.m. on Thursday June 21, 2012, jelly fish, including
Portuguese Man-o-War, are not present in the water
throughout Cocoa Beach from Coconuts on the
Beach northward to Jetty Park in Cape
Canaveral. However, easterly winds may push the jellies closer to shore today.
Look for purple flags flying at
nearby lifeguard stations which would indicate the presence of jelly
fish in the immediate area. Red Flags indicate dangerous surf
conditions including rip currents.
Sargasso
seaweed is heavily present on shore and in the water.
Winds are from the east-southeast this morning at 8 miles per hour.
A near shore current is moving southward.
Breaking waves are 1-3 feet and semi-choppy. Easterly winds are pushing the wave height down today.
Conditions will not be good for surf fishing today due to clouded water and the heavy presence of seaweed.
If
you are planning a
land-based fishing trip today with friends and family, it would be better
to fish from Jetty Park, Port Canaveral locks, Indian
River Lagoon, or Sebastian Inlet rather than the open ocean.
In the open near-shore ocean waters, Sea Trout, Black Drum, Red Drum, Whiting and Pompano have been hitting up and down the Brevard County coastline and inlet mouths during the last four months from Sebastian Inlet to Port Canaveral.
