20% Chance Tropical Cyclone Forms in Atlantic

MIAMI, Florida -- At 2 a.m. on July 31, 2012 Eastern Daylight Time, NOAA's National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, has issued a tropical weather outlook due to the continued presence of a tropical wave located about 1100 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands in the Atlantic Ocean.  The system continues to produce disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity.

NOAA says that environmental conditions are conducive for some gradual development to occur over the next few days.  This system has a low chance (20%) of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours as it moves westward at about 10 to 15 miles per hour.

Tropical cyclone formation is not expected elsewhere in the Atlantic during the next 48 hours.
