Joint Chiefs of Staff Transport Jet Attacked By Rockets

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – U.S. Department of Defense officials say that shrapnel from a rocket attack on Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan hit a C-17 that had transported the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, causing damage to one engine and the front of the transport jet.

Department of Defense officials say that the chairman was never in any danger from the attack, and that there was no indication the Afghan insurgents targeted the general.
