Brush Fire Scorches Two Acres on Merritt Island
MERRITT ISLAND, Florida - Brevard County Fire Rescue (BCFR) crews responded for a
report of a brush fire near the intersection of North Tropical Trail and
Pioneer Road on Merritt Island, Florida this afternoon. The call was dispatched
at 2:54 p.m.
Firefighters arrived on scene minutes later and reported a fast moving fire located on an empty lot surrounded by homes. Firefighters quickly deployed brush trucks and handlines into the area and were able to knock the fire down before any homes were threatened.
Officials estimate the
fire burned about two acres.
Crews deemed the fire under control at 3:27 p.m. and began mopping up hot spots in the area. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
