Hurricane Rafael Churns Off Florida Coast

 
MIAMI, Florida -- As of 5:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Tuesday October 16, 2012, NOAA's National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, issued its tropical weather outlook due to the presence of Hurricane Rafael in the western tropical Atlantic.  

Hurricane Rafael is located 3950 miles south of Bermuda with maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour, with higher gusts - making Rafael a Category 1 hurricaneHurricane Rafael is moving north-northeast at 16 miles per hour.


NOAA's storm tracker predicts that the center of
Hurricane Rafael will continue on its northeasterly track over the next few days.  Hurricane Rafael is predicted to remain a category 1 hurricane today over the open waters of the Atlantic which could generate large ocean swells for the Florida and Georgia Atlantic coasts today through Wednesday.


A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Bermuda.

 
 
A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours.
