Brevard County Courthouse Evacuated For Smoke

VIERA, Florida -  The Moore Justice Center, located at 2825 Judge Fran Jamieson Way in Viera, Florida was evacuated this morning following a commercial fire alarm activation at 9:10 a.m.

Brevard County Fire Rescue, assisted by units from Rockledge Fire Department, responded to the scene and located an elevator room with a notable amount of smoke.  Power to the area was secured by firefighters prior to an investigation into the cause of the smoke.

Brevard County Fire Rescue spokesperson Lt. Jeffrey Taylor said that the cause of the smoke was determined to be a faulty fan motor.  Crews are still at the scene ventilating the affected room.

Taylor said that the evacuation is expected to be lifted shortly with daily operations at the Brevard County Courthouse resuming as planned.
