CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida -- If you are asking, "When does
daylight savings time begin?" The answer is the date for Spring 2013 Daylight Savings
Time (DST) begins for Florida next Sunday on March 10, 2013.
The rest of the United States
will also turn their clocks forward on Sunday, March 10, 2013 (with the
exception of Hawaii and Arizona because those states do not practice
Daylight Savings Time.)
A helpful way to remember whether to set our clocks ahead or behind one hour
during the daylight savings time is to "Fall Back" and "Spring Ahead."
This means that we lose (not gain) an hour when we push our clocks
forward an hour to 3:00 a.m. when
our clocks reach 1:59 a.m. on Sunday. This time change often adds to
the sleep deprivation students are already experiencing during Spring
Term exam week.
Naturally, many people think that with Spring Break 2013 and the changing of the seasons comes the changing of their clocks at the beginning of Spring 2013. But the majority of high school and college Spring Breaks - and the peak of college Spring Break travel season in Florida - occurs in the middle and latter half of March which is after Daylight Savings Time 2013 begins.

Although we lose an extra hour of sleep, early 2013 Spring Breakers can rest at ease that an hour will not be
lost at the local bars in Cocoa Beach, Florida as a result of the time
change. However, do check with your hotel to see if Daylight Savings Time affects your check-out time.
