MIMS, Florida -- The Florida Higway Patrol reported that 77-year-old Gilda Abolafia of Boca Raton, Florida died as a result of injuries she sustained in a traffic accident that occurred on I-95 near mile marker 228 close to Mims, Florida.
FHP troopers say that 78-year-old Murray Abolafia, also of Boca Raton, was driving a 2012 Toyota Camry southbound on I-95 around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. For unknown reasons, the Camry traveled off the roadway and onto the west grass shoulder and continued towards the tree line. When the Camry entered the tree line, it struck a large tree.
Gilda Abolafia was transported to Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Florida where she later died. Murray Abolafia was transported to the trauma center at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida.
According to the FHP report, both passenger and driver were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
This crash remains under investigation.
