NOAA: Tropical Storm Dorian Moving Faster, Projected Path Update

MIAMI, Florida --  As of 11:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Saturday July 27, 2013, NOAA's National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida has issued a public advisory due to the presence of Tropical Storm Dorian, the fourth named storm of the 2013 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which continues on its westerly track in the eastern tropical Atlantic Ocean.

Tropical Storm Dorian is located approximately 720 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands and is moving to the west near 23 miles per hour.  Maximum sustained winds are around 40 miles per hour with tropical storm force winds extending 60 miles from the center of the storm.

Tropical Storm Dorian Latest Satellite Imagery:

Satellite imagery indicates that Tropical Storm Dorian continues to become less organized due to interaction with wind shear and dry air.

Tropical Storm Dorian Latest Spaghetti Modles:

NOAA's storm tracker and computer spaghetti models are in general agreement that the projected path of Tropical Storm Dorian will continue to the west today and deteriorate to a tropical depression or wave before reaching the island of Hispaniola.

Could Sahara Sand In Florida Mean Less Hurricanes?

NOAA is forecasting an active or extremely active 2013 Atlantic hurricane season this year due to warmer-than-average ocean temperatures, lack of El Niño, and a continuation of the atmospheric climate pattern, which includes a strong west African monsoon, that is responsible for the ongoing era of high activity for Atlantic hurricanes that began in 1995.
