Tropical Storm Dorian Forms In Atlantic: Projected Path Update

MIAMI, Florida --  As of 11:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Wednesday July 24, 2013, NOAA's National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, has issued a public advisory due to the formation of Tropical Storm Dorian, the fourth named storm of the 2013 Atlantic Hurricane Season, in the eastern Atlantic Ocean.

The latest location of Tropical Storm Dorian is approximately 410 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, with maximum sustained winds of about 50 miles per hour.  Tropical Storm Dorian is moving to the west-northwest at 21 miles per hour.

NOAA's storm tracker and spaghetti models are in agreement that the projected path of Tropical Storm Dorian will continue west-northwest over the next couple of days.  Some slight strengthening of Tropical Storm Dorian could occur, followed by some weakening on Thursday.

NOAA is forecasting an active or extremely active 2013 Atlantic hurricane season this year due to warmer-than-average ocean temperatures, lack of El NiƱo, and a continuation of the atmospheric climate pattern, which includes a strong west African monsoon, that is responsible for the ongoing era of high activity for Atlantic hurricanes that began in 1995.
