Tennessee Man Killed After Being Hit By Car In Melbourne

MELBOURNE, Florida -- Just after 9 p.m. on Thursday, Melbourne Police responded to a vehicle crash at the area of US-1 and East River Drive in Melbourne, Florida.  The crash involved a 2007 Toyota Four Runner driven by Duanhui Chen, 49, of West Melbourne; and a pedestrian, Bennie Lamar Cintonz, 39, of Tennessee.

At this point in the investigation, police say that it appears Cintonz was crossing US-1 from west to east, and did so in front of the Toyota that was traveling southbound in the center lane of US-1.

Cintonz was struck by the left front of the Toyota and suffered critical injuries as a result of the collision. Cintonz was later pronounced deceased at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.

Police say Chen was uninjured and is cooperating with the investigation.

Charges stemming from this incident, if any, will be determined after a thorough police investigation.
