I-95 Northbound Re-Opened After Semi Overturns

UPDATE: All lanes have re-opened. Check Brevard Times TRAFFIC for the latest updates.

TITUSVILLE, Florida -- Interstate 95 northbound remains closed early this Tuesday morning as crews work to upright an overturned semi that hit the median on the overpass over State Road 50. Traffic is being diverted off and back on 95 at the State Road 50 exit.

The guardrail crushed the cab, and it took crews about 50 minutes to extricate the driver, BCFR spokesperson Lee Neesel said in a release.  The female patient was flown to Holmes Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

The truck was carrying 45,000 pounds of hot tar. Twenty gallons spilled, but there was no damage to the road. Including the Haz/Mat unit, seven units and two district chiefs responded to the scene.

Interstate 95 was closed at about 3 a.m. when the helicopter landed to transport the driver and will remain closed an undetermined amount of time.

Crews will work to repair the guardrail at daylight.
