Pit Bull Attacks Melbourne Police Officer

MELBOURNE, Florida -- A Melbourne Police Officer was attacked and bit by a dog on Friday during an officer standby on Fee Avenue in Melbourne, Florida.

Officer Stan Smith responded to the call at approximately 10:00 a.m. this morning, and while speaking with a citizen, two dogs from within the residence ran out the door and one dog, a pit bull, attacked the officer.

Officer Smith received injuries to his arm, hand, knee, and foot. He was treated and released from the hospital and is in good health, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

Brevard County Animal Control responded to the scene and has quarantined the dog to its residence.

There are no pending charges related to this incident.
