Homemade turkey gravy is extremely easy to make in under 5 minutes. However, the most often question asked is how do make home made turkey gravy from drippings without lumps?
The answer is to separate the fat from the turkey drippings in the roasting pan.
Immediately after you have removed the turkey from the roasting pan and the oven is still hot:
Step 1. Slowly pour the clear turkey grease into a medium pot which will leave the solid pieces still in the roasting pan.
Step 2. Pour 1 cup of red wine and 1 cup of turkey or chicken broth into the roasting pan. Quickly stir and scrape the roasting pan, mixing the solids with the red wine and broth. Return roasting pan to the oven.
Step 3. Place the medium pot of turkey grease on burner set to medium high. Add 1/4 cup sifted flour and whisk until fully dissolved.
Step 4. Pull your roasting pan out of the oven and slowly pour the mix of red wine, broth, and turkey solids into the medium pot. Continue whisking until even.
Step 5: Add a dash of thyme and/or pepper. Do not add salt.
