Train Derails In Brevard County
VIERA, Florida - A Florida East Coast Railways train derailed in Brevard County, Florida just after 5 a.m. on Sunday.
The Florida East Coast Railway train engine and four cars carrying cargo containers derailed near Viera Boulevard and US Highway 1 near southern Rockledge and Viera, Florida.
Viera Boulevard was temporarily closed to traffic but has since re-opened. One southbound lane of US-1 remains closed indefinitely to allow for fire rescue and rail crews to operate in the area.
Brevard County Fire Rescue crews had to clean up a diesel spill from the derailment earlier this morning. No hazardous materials except for the diesel leaked from the accident, according to BCFR.
