The Sheriff's Office began its investigation on Tuesday into the accusation that Brevard County Sheriff's Deputy Barre Taylor and the inmate had sex twice during the last several weeks.
"This type of behavior is never tolerated, and it is considered an insult to the incredible men and women of our agency that took an oath of office to do the right thing, and do the right thing each and every day," Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said during a press conference on Wednesday.
Taylor was arrested on charges of sexual misconduct and was booked on a $5,000 bond into the Brevard County Jail where he had been working as a corrections officer for five years.
In 2013, Taylor (pictured far left) was one of two officers named "Corrections Deputy of the Year" for their off-duty assistance to a security guard in the apprehension of a shoplifter in Titusville.
Taylor's mugshot cannot be published because Florida statutes prohibit the release of mugshots of former and current law enforcement officers.
