2016 Kids Free Fishing Clinic In Port Canaveral

Kid's Fishing Clinic At Port Canaveral, Florida

PORT CANAVERAL, Florida -- Teaching children a lifelong hobby, instilling an appreciation for our marine environment and providing fun, family outings are the objectives for the 22nd Annual Kid’s Fishing Clinic, organizers say.

This free clinic takes place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on June 25, 2016,  at Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal #3 located at 220 Christopher Columbus Drive in Port Canaveral.

Registration for the clinic will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the event. Participants are encouraged to bring sunscreen, bag lunch, folding chair, and water.

The clinic enables young people between the ages of 5 and 15 to learn the basics of environmental stewardship, fishing ethics, rod and reel selection, knot tying, tackle selection, fishing ethics, plus water and boating safety.

There will be environmental displays of local marine wildlife and aquatic “touch” tanks to offer participants a unique chance to experience Florida’s marine life firsthand.  Kids’ fishing clinics strive to achieve several goals, but the main objective is to create responsible marine-resource stewards by teaching children about the vulnerability of Florida’s marine ecosystems.

Fishing equipment and bait will be provided for kids to use during the clinic, but organizers encourage children who own fishing tackle to bring it.  A limited number of rods and reels will be given away to participants upon completion of the one-hour clinic.
