24-Hour Wikipedia Blackout To Take Place January 18
Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales announced that the English Wikipedia will undergo a 24-hour blackout on January 18, 2012.
The blackout is to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA.) Many online media sites and search engines oppose the legislation because they feel it would hamper free speech and online innovation.
Other websites are also expected to join in the protest by blacking out their websites during the same time period.
Just this last Saturday, the Obama Administration released in a White House blog what it would, and
would not, support with regards to SOPA, PROCTECT IP Act, and OPEN.
