NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana -- At 6:00 a.m. Central Daylight Time on Wednesday August 29,
2012, NOAA's National Hurricane Center in Miami,
Florida, issued
a Hurricane Isaac Public Advisory due to Hurricane Isaac's pummeling of southeast Louisiana with two separate landfalls and accompanying storm surge and flooding.
8 AM August 30 UPDATE: NOAA: 100% Chance New Tropical Cyclone Forms In Atlantic
NOAA reports that maximum winds associated with Hurricane Isaac are 80 miles per hour and that Hurricane force winds extend out 60 miles from the center while tropical storm force winds extend 175 miles out from the center.
Flooding from Hurricane Isaac's storm surge has been, and will continue to occur throughout Wednesday as Hurricane Isaac slowly moves through New Orleans, Louisiana.
NOAA says that Hurricane Isaac poses a significant storm surge threat to the northern U.S. Gulf Coast:
Southeast Louisiana and Mississippi: 6 to 12 feet.
Alabama: 3 to 6 feet.
South Central Louisiana: 3 to 6 feet.
Florida Panhandle and Apalachee Bay: 2 to 4 feet
NOAA's National Hurricane Center stormtracker forecasts that Hurricane Isaac will take a northwesterly track and arrive just off the coast of New Orleans, Louisiana today.
The northeast quadrant of Tropical Storm Issac turned Hurricane Isaac, the most powerful area of a hurricane in the northern hemisphere, is now over Mississippi and the Alabama-Florida border as Hurricane Isaac passes over southeast Louisiana.
The majority of the spaghetti models predict that Hurricane Isaac will head west-northwest on Wednesday and become a tropical storm after landfall. Hurricane Issac is predicted to become a tropical depression on Friday when it reaches Arkansas and Missouri.
