NOAA: Tropical Depression Irma Projected Path, Spaghetti Models

MIAMI, Florida - NOAA's National Hurricane Center issued a Public Advisory due to Tropical Depression Irma that has weakened from a powerful hurricane.


Tropical Depression Irma Strength

As of 11 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Monday, September 11, 2017, Tropical Depression Irma has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph (55 km/h), with higher gusts.

Irma is currently a tropical depression on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. NHC forecasters expect the system to weaken into a remnant low tonight.

Spaghetti models forecast that Tropical Depression Irma's projected path will take the eye of the tropical cyclone over southwest Georgia tonight, then Alabama on Tuesday and Tennessee on Wednesday.

Tropical Depression Irma is located 95 miles south-southwest of Atlanta, Georgia and is moving to the northwest at 15 mph (24 km/h). NHC forecasters say that Irma is expected to slow down in forward speed.

NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center forecasts that the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 through November 30, could be the busiest in seven years.
